This Victorian beer palace could be Harringay's largest building; it's certainly the most imposing. The changes in the last few years were a spruce-up rather than a makeover, the better to show off the vast, high-ceilinged rooms, glorious wooden bar, stained glass, statues and other fancies, without alienating the geezers who rub shoulders with the grungey-ish newer punters. Beers are mainly Fuller's, with Litovel lagers on draught and many more in bottles; food is quality pub-grub (burgers, 'handmade sausage of the day', couscous). Live acts, in another spacious room, are a staple: bands, comedy and more.
