The Pear Tree sits behind Margravine Cemetery in the middle of low-rise council blocks - an oasis of comfortable calm in an unexpected location. The pub changed hands lately and has benefited from a refurbishment, with the main room centred on a horseshoe bar; adjoining is a back room used chiefly for dining (Sunday roasts provide punctuation on a food menu that reprises many gastropub favourites), and then a small, pear-tree-shaded garden complete with an area inspired by Moroccan boudoirs.

Timothy Taylor Landlord and Old Speckled Hen seem the best draught options, with a standard wine selection of ten options of each colour all sold by the glass. The drinks list may not be impressive, but the garden makes this worth a special trip.

The Pear Tree has now found its feet -far from looking tired, Daz and his team have bit by bit refurbished it, so its a cosy and classic Victorian pub. With fresh cooked Pork Pies on the bar alongside a great hot food menue from Scotch eggs to classics and often a dish with a Pear, this pub is friendly, well priced and fun.Certainly the food is better than others in the area - much to my annoyance and weight gain! Also the pub quiz now has a cult following in this part of london...
