City envy: Traffic-straddling buses in Qinhuangdao

The solution to road congestion problems? Or the most ridiculous-looking vehicle ever created? We think that this new traffic-straddling bus, that's being trialled in the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao, might be a bit of both. The tunnel-like contraption, catchily named the Transit Explore Bus (TEB), can glide over the top of two lanes of cars, thus theoretically helping to get more people to their destinations in less time.

Standing a mammoth five metres high and 22 metres long, it can carry up to 300 commuters, but there are plans to create an even bigger version that will carry 1,200.

If the bus proves a hit, it might be rolled out (arf) to other cities across China, and France and Brazil have already expressed interest. Who knows - being stuck in traffic could soon become like, sooo 2016. The downside? There's one less excuse for being late for work.

We also want an ice cream museum like New York and Shanghai's Uber hot air balloon rides.
