City envy: you can now go to a puppy party in New York

This lunchtime, you'll probably just sit at your desk staring at your sad, limp, grey sandwich. But if you were in New York, you could be doing much more (and no, not just eating bagels, hailing taxis and bumping into Carrie from 'Sex and the City', again). The Residence Inn Midtown East hotel has come up with the perfect way to spend a lunch hour - being surrounded by puppies. Now, before you get a mental image of some kind of dodgy, Peta-outraging doggy-pit, this pooch party is a totally legit affair. The dogs involved are all looking for loving homes, and the aim of the game is to let people mingle with the mutts and, if they get along, adopt one. Even better, the North Shore Animal League, which arranged the first puppy party in collaboration with the hotel, holds similar events all over the city on a regular basis. A pup-lifting tail indeed.

We also want Derby's Creme scotch eggs and LA's cake maze.
