London's naked club night just got bigger and wetter

Earlier this month, two hundred punters bought tickets for a night called Get Naked, quickly selling out the capacity of Soho venue The Takeover Bar. While nakedness wasn't mandatory, people who wanted to strip off were 'invited' to have their body painted first.

Promoter Joshua Walker told us over the phone that the vibe he was aiming for was ‘small and intimate’ and expected ‘ten or so people to be cheeky and get naked’. Instead, according to Walker, because way more people than expected wanted to get naked, there wouldn't have been enough lockers, potentially leading to a 'Hunger Games'-esque battle for storage space.

After cancelling the event at short notice, Walker has unveiled new plans for the night. Big change #1: it's now being held at the 700-capacity The Aquarium in Old Street, which famously boasts a huge swimming pool inside.

Big change #2: It’s now going to be an all-dayer rather than at night, running from noon to 5pm. The event, now rechristened 'Get Wet, Get Naked', will have a swimshorts-and-swimsuits theme and also a buffet. Er, yummy?

Walker ensures that the maximum you can wear is a swimsuit or shorts, and people can still get naked if they want to and be made-up with body paint 'in a nudist environment, not a trashy one’. Though the event has undergone some big changes, we're at least relieved that the naked element is still on the cards – given how opportunities for London nakedness keep vanishing. Only a couple of weeks ago Eagle London gave up its sex entertainment licence, while saunas like Chariots closed down earlier this year. As silly as it sounds, it’s actually becoming bloody hard to be naked in London right now. Our dark spaces are increasingly stuck in the Dark Ages, light years behind Berlin or Amsterdam.

Regardless of the venue change and the buffet, at least some people are trying something different. Let’s just hope that it’s less cocktail sausages and more cocktails and sausages.

Get Naked is on November 12 at The Aquarium, Old Street. Tickets go on sale on Monday for £15.
