Ten Reasons to go to Seth Troxler's Acid Future

Barbecue connoisseur, occasional nudist and globe-conquering DJ Seth Troxler is throwing a party, and he wants you there. Yes, you. The charasmatic and refreshingly eccentric DJ's previous antics have included hosting an event titled ‘Big Tittie Surprise: Dolphin Fight’, making a promo video in the buff and stylishly slamming guestlist blaggers.

His latest endeavour, Seth Troxler’s Acid Future, is a huge, daytime rave at vast Wapping venue Tobacco Dock, influenced by acid house culture but led by his own unique vision. We asked Troxler why Londoners should go. Turns out there are plenty of reasons, so we've picked ten of the best.

1. Two ages of dance music will be battling it out.
Enigmatic DJ Arthur Baker – who’s worked with everyone from Afrika Bambaataa to New Order – will play a rare live set, going head-to-head with New York house aces The Martinez Brothers.

2. The rest of the line-up isn't bad either.
‘I got a lot of my homies playing,’ says Troxler. Said homies are a superb cast, including DJ Harvey, Jackmaster, Skream, Marshall Jefferson and Danny Rampling.

3. The venue.
The mustachioed deep house maestro notes: ‘You can’t really have any other party in Tobacco Dock besides a classic, full-on rave.’

4. The look.
Your party host has a plan: ‘We have a specific idea, but the vibe isn’t a throwback to old UK acid house. I’m not British and I’m not old, so for me to try and interpret either of those things would be kind of a piss-take.’

5. A marvellously meaty roof.
Troxler’s lauded Smokey Tails barbecue shack will pop-up on the venue's rooftop, serving all kinds of delicious meaty – and some non-meaty – treats. Seth will be on barbecue duties throughout the day as well as DJ duties. ‘I’ll be up there, grilling our signature pulled pork and ribs,’ he assures us.

6. It's about looking to the future, rather than wallowing in the past.
He’s very clear on this: ‘It’s not about reliving the past, which electronic music so often does. It’s our take on the future and creating something new and exciting. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s about that 303 [synthesizer] sound. This is the acid future.’

7. But there will be timeless bangers to rave to.
‘Acid classics will be dropped,’ says Troxler. We’re betting on 808 State’s ‘In Yer Face’, Phuture’s ‘Acid Tracks’ and Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’.

8. The afterparty.
When Acid Future finishes at 10.30pm, head to Clerkenwell club Fabric, where the barbecue boss and DJ pals – including Jasper James and Recondite – will spin tunes until the early hours.

9. Troxler knows London.
He really does: ‘The reason we're having this party in London is because it’s the centre of the world!’

10. This.
Any final thoughts, Seth? ‘The line-up’s gonna be sick, the decorations are gonna be sick, the party’s gonna be sick. That’s all people need to know! It’ll be an acid-fuelled wonderland. Take that however you want.’

Seth Troxer's Acid Future is at Tobacco Dock, Sat Aug 8. Find out more here.
