The sticky red carpet and the broken lampshades at this unusual Bethnal Green venue - which, as the bemused looks on the faces of the regulars vividly proves, still functions as a working men's club - perfectly suits the programme of quirky lounge nights, vintage rock 'n' roll sessions, cheesy-listening clubs and fancy-dress burlesque parties that make up the lion's part of the programming here.
The mood is friendly, the playlist is usually upbeat and the air is full of artful, playful mischief. The drinks aren't anything special, to say the least, but they're at least served at prices that won't leave too much of a dent in your '50s-vintage jumble-sale purse.
