Out of the Shadows

Austria's Nobolus Dance Company mix popping, locking and breaking with contemporary dance, ballet and acrobatics in 'Out of the Shadows'. The show is a cautionary tale, looking at the creation of the universe and the evolution of man and heading into the future to an imagined apocalypse. Should be epic.

As an OAP who typicalIy limits my music to clasical music but has moved forward to West Side Story I am definitely not the typical person who would have booked to see Nobolus and a programme of break dancing but myself any my partner (of similar vintage) were absolutely bowled over by the raw excitment of the dancers, their physical strength and agility and the sheer continuous energy they all put into their performance. While "Transformer animation" might amuse a ten year old this troop were electrifying how in seconds they could make you think they were bicycles, chairs, seats, boats and cars. Then they "slightly relax" and become a card table and or a music centre. If you ever only see one contemporary dance group make this the one you see. I know you will not know what you have missed if you do not but be assured you will miss the dance experience of a life-time. My partner is more open to new music than me but she saw the joy on my own face. The experience we made even better by a class of teenage girls who were transfixed with joy and burst into continuous joyful discussion the moment the interval started. Just Go! Go! Go!
