Covent Garden

Having tended the tresses of the rich and famous from Ivana Trump to Jamie Oliver, Stuart Philips retains a remarkably down-to-earth attitude and his plush Covent Garden salon reflects his demenor. We are always impressed by the treatment we receive here – on a recent trip the blow dry we had managed to give volume to our fine, limp hair with out making it frizzy. The interior is ultra-comfy and induces instant calm; recline in cool leather chairs and have a chat with the friendly, informative staff. From £30 for a wash and blow dry.

Since my last hairdresser left I tried other stylists from the same salon but they were not as good.

I've tried other big salons in London but haven't found anyone that even compares to my last stylist. I decided to look on the internet and spent hours searching.

I then discovered this boutique salon in Covent Garden  "Stuart Phillips" I can't believe that I'd never heard of them, this salon is award winning and just love their website.

Anyway I booked an appointment and decided to pay a little more with the man himself and have one of his top colourists Caron-Ann.

As soon as I walked in and even though Stuart was just finishing off a blow-dry he came up to me and introduced himself, he explained that he would be around 5 minutes, his lovely smile put me at ease somehow.

Stuart gave me a long hair consultation and spoke about everything from my face shape down to my job, he even gave me two choices of cuts and everything had a full explanation. I have never experienced a consultation like it, I would have paid for that alone. I agreed to let him cut  six inches of hair with a long soft fringe. Knowing what I'm like I should have been nervous but he was so thorough with the explanation that I completely trusted and agreed with him, even my last hairdresser wasn't as thorough as this!

Caron-Ann then gave me a colour consultation, this was equally as reassuring as Stuart's, Caron was going to take me from a blonde to a brunette, I was excited but also nervous!

I could go on for ages writing about my experience in this gem of a salon, from the wonderful relaxing head massage that I received to the lovely friendly staff BUT the most important thing is the end result, as I'm sure you would agree!!

I can honestly say this is the best cut and colour that I have received in many years, the cut has taken years off me and I feel more confident about myself, my new hair colour is equally as lovely, as a blonde it looked a bit dull but somehow as a brunette it's given it more shine and made it appear slightly thicker.

I will certainly recommend this salon to my friends and family!

Called to enquire about appointment and receptionist was extremely unhelpful and had quite an attitude which is unprofessional and not what you expect from someone representing their firm. Manners cost nothing.. Lost a customer as a result but with an attitude like that, I doubt will care.

The great thing about Stuart and his team, is that as well as getting a good haircut by people that really know what they are doing, they also make you feel very comfortable. From the moment you walk through the door and receive a friendly welcome, to the relaxing shampoo with head massage, to a professional consultation to analyse and discuss the best treatment for your hair, you feel assured that you are having a fantastic experience. Well worth a visit.

I first discovered this gem of a salon after reading the Time-Out review. I then searched on line and discovered all the great reviews and ended up watching a few of Stuart's hair videos (very addictive) so thought I would give it a try. I decided to go for the best so booked an appointment with Stuart for the cut and his creative colour director Caron for my highlights. Although Stuart and Caron were fairly expensive I felt that it would be worth it because over the past few years I've tried many big name salons and was unfortunately disappointed each time. Although Stuart Phillips is also a big named salon I felt after reading the many reviews and watching his amazing hair videos that I could trust this salon. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a friendly smile and was offered a drink. Stuart came up to me almost immediately and introduced himself, he had such a nice way with him and the fact that I recognized him from the TV I felt relaxed straight away. His consultation lasted about 20 minutes, it was incredible, he spoke about my face shape, bone structure and my lifestyle etc, it was the most thorough consultation that I have experienced. Caron also gave me a thorough consultation. I was then taken to the back wash where I laid back on their amazing shampoo beds for a blissful shampoo and head massage. After that wonderful massage I was very comfortable and relaxed. Stuart cut a few inches off and gave me some much needed layers and Caron added three different blondes but made it look very natural which was exactly what I was after! My conclusion is, I had the best cut and colour in over 40 years in a salon that wasn't intimidating but relaxing and comfortable. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. I will be recommending this salon to my friends!
