This well-to-do Georgian beauty has been a hotel since the 1920s. It still has an atmospheric, antique air, although the rooms have mod cons enough – TVs, mini-fridges, tea and coffee. Its looks have earned it a role in Agatha Christie’s Poirot, but it’s not chintzy, just quite floral in the bedspread and curtain department. The breakfast room is handsome, with snowy cotton tablecloths and Windsor chairs.
