Re: comment by Gordon Jones.
I too remember how we looked forward to the annual treat to the Lord Hatfield's grounds.
At that time I was a pupil at Morden Junior School.
Yes. they were the good old days

During my primary school years in the early 1930's at Winchombe Road School, Lord Hatfield, as we knew him, used to invite every school in the neighbourhood to his grounds every summer. Not all schools on the same day but staggered. There Lord Hatfield had a marque set up where we were served with soft drinks, sandwiches and cakes. The River Wandle ran through the Park and we were taken on punt rides along it. I and a small group were taken one year by Lord Hatfield to be shown his rose garden. I still remember him putting his nose right into the roses and saying how wonderful they smelt.

In the winter he would send an entertainment troupe around to every school.

Good old school days!!!
