The Hackney Museum is a local history museum located in, and celebrating, one of the most culturally diverse areas of Europe, which investigates the nature of immigration through objects, interactive displays, computer programs and oral-history recordings. Among an eclectic mix of artefacts and images are Daniel Defoe’s tombstone, a propaganda sheet from Nazi Germany, a Victorian fireplace and a Galatasaray football shirt. Hands-on children's activities include the chance to load up a Saxon ship, try on period costumes and make Victorian matchboxes in a rave against the clock. Free tours of Hackney Museum take place on Wednesdays at 3pm and must be booked in advance.
