The bricks and arches of cavernous Cargo keep Shoreditch music fans in a blissful state of whatever-nextness. Happily, it’s just far enough from the main drag to ensure that it escapes the stag parties and bridge-and-tunnel revellers who roam Shoreditch at weekends, and as such has retained an atmosphere that stands slightly apart from its fashionable neighbours.
The music programming remains gloriously varied, taking in everything from indie-rock hopefuls to Fela Kuti tribute acts. Also worthy of mention: the great street-food café (pizzas, burgers, £5 lunch specials) and the Shepard Fairey-styled street art in the garden. A noble endeavour, and one still worth backing.
