A Brixton institution from back when Coldharbour Lane was somewhere people feared to go, Dogstar is a big, three-floor street-corner pub exuding the urban authenticity loved by clubbers. Earning the accolade of being London’s first ever DJ bar, Dogstar has managed to sustain a loyal following over the decades. The most recent refurbishment has left the interior looking like a cross between the Old Blue Last and Loungelover. The atmosphere can be intense, but it’s never less than vibrant. A top tip for first-timers is to get there early – not only will you be able to bag space at the pool table but you can also evade the door tax. Dogstar’s music policy is varied with everything from hip hop to drum ’n’ bass and funk. There are often comedy nights and the food from the Mexican restaurant is popular with locals.

I went to this bar for a 40th birthday party in one of their function rooms. Me and my friend were told by the doorman that we couldn't enter without letting them scan some photo-ID which also included our home address into their computer- the only ID's we had were our driving licences- which means that two total strangers, plus anyone else with access to their computer system, has our full names, ages (41 so believe me this has got nothing to do with us looking underage) and home addresses. I would never hand over private details like this but we weren't given a choice- if we'd refused we wouldn't have been able to go to our friends party. Now I feel vulnerable knowing those private details are on their computer- along with, I am sure, hundreds of other women's photographs and (and mens) personal details. Has anyone else had this? is it legal? Do they have to delete it or is it just there? It seems ridiculous that in an age where we are all meant to be aware of security that a high street pub can blackmail people into handing over personal information.

Mega fun night out in very lively Brixton, extremely tasty pizzas, cool staff and party atmosphere later on. Good range of drinks, resonable 'pub' prices!!!
