DZ Deathrays

Punk and hardcore, Alternative rock

This scuzzy garage rock duo come from a land down under, and tonight gleefully inflict their brand of 'thrash pop' (complete with shouty backing vocals like early Arcade Fire) on a rowdy London crowd.

Joanna Gruesome

Pop, Indie rock, Shoegaze

  • Critics' choice

Mixing up early My Bloody Valentine's sweet fuzz with punk thrust and indie-pop jangling, the impeccably named Joanna Gruesome are an exciting new four-piece from Cardiff.

Theft. Went to the Shaklewell Arms after a birthday meal. Left a bag containing gifts and bottles of Champagne with the security staff, who insisted it would be safe. On the return of the bag items where missing to the total of £60. Sadly the CCTV didn't cover this area. Not a great establishment.

Great venue/pub. But definitely not suited to the typical fuddy-duddy Time Out readers. (read below)

This place has some of the worst organisation I have ever seen: Despite buying a ticket & queuing for well over half an hour we were met with angry and clearly frustrated door staff. A man pushed in the que and started a fight with someone, they let him in. the staff were overworked and unhelpful: Even politely asking where the toilet was was met with rudeness. I would avoid this pub if you are looking for a safe and enjoyable evening out.
