Formerly a Lily Allen-style urban pop diarist, wont to sing about pumpkin soup and terminally useless boyfriends over plinky piano-pop, Nash is midway through a riot grrrl reinvention that's seen her adding scuzzy riffing and lo-fi noise to her observational lyrics. She had to set up her own label to release her new album 'Girl Talk', after her former label objected to a rapid write-record-release schedule: possibly because they wanted to steer the record away from the whole DIY punk thing, and possibly because, to be honest, the songs just aren't quite what they used to be.
