South London’s first ‘tiki bar’ is a coconutty mix of Polynesian primitive tiki masks, House of Bamboo decor, Bounty Bar vistas and Sarf Pacific cocktails hosted by Heilco van der Ploeg of Club Montepulciano. He adds elements of Club M’s appeal with DJs Nick Hollywood, Felix & Frank Lombard spinning lounge to swinging disco tunes at weekends plus quirky cabaret and ‘tiki tapas’ too (Polynesian & Dutch East Indies fusion food). Check out their fine website too at

SLP is a bit of a marmite experience. The cheesy music, cheap and plentiful alcohol and slightly sleazy vibe split the critics.

It can be good fun, but the clientele are often rowdy and out-of-hand and the security somewhat lacking.

The same could potentially be said of any club, but SLP in particular in my experience is often not the nicest of late-night London environments.

However, if listening to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air at the end of the night sounds like your idea of heaven, SLP is the place to be.

Best venue for a late night out in Kennington. Cheesy tunes, great cocktails, always a very fun crowd.
