It's no exaggeration to describe this corner venue as an institution, since it's welcomed across the threshold of its rather shabby upstairs room Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand and Bombay Bicycle Club – just a few of the many bands who played very early London gigs here. It was a popular hangout during the Britpop and grunge years, doubtless due to its loud, post-band DJ sets (Queens of Noize later had a notorious residency here) and late licence. The Barfly retains its reputation for seven-day championing of cool and upcoming talent, making it a destination venue for serious music fans and partygoers alike.

I saw Lucy Rose live in the Barfly earlier this year and the venue was absolutely on point for her music. An intimate space, which couldn't have fitted Lucy Rose's vibe any better! I've never heard of anyone else talk of the Barfly, even though I imagine any Londoner has walked right past its door hundreds of times!

It sounds awesomely legendary, even though I've never ever been there,I eagerly look forward to the ascension,indeed...

Some say Barfly should be my nickname. That's just unfair. However I would not mind being named after this GREAT Camden hideout. Unremarkable pub downstairs, awesome music room upstairs. In the last year I have seen two amazing acts here and a few that don't quite live up to that billing. Blackberry Smoke - over from the USA were outstanding. A real raw Lynard Skynard sounding dirty down south outfit that should break through to the big time any day now. The second (pictured) was Jeannine Barry who I had seen at Borderline and C2C. She nailed it at Barfly. Check her out on http://www.jeanninebarry.com . Looking forward to my next visit to Barfly.
