Demonstrating the breadth of artists willing (and eager) to run under the folk banner these days, The Bedford's third annual FolkFest takes in everything from the 'new Mumford & Sons' MATA (whose delicate, pastoral banjo-indie actually deserves rather better than that tag) to the droning confessional acoustica of Fox, aka Detective Sergeant Hathaway in TV's 'Lewis', aka Mr Billie Piper. Those with a deeper connection to the folk tradition, if a very modern take, include Newcastle's one-time Mercury nominee Williams and Dunlop, the son of Fairport Convention ledge Ashley Hutchings, who recently won a BBC Folk Award for his debut album 'Blight and Blossom'.
