The basement of this Stokie pub has been championing the more left-leaning of north London's independent music makers for almost 20 years, via institutions like the Corn Rocket Club (dedicated to garage, punk, trash, surf beat and rock ’n' roll). It's also the site of regular improv meet, Flim Flam, which regularly showcases freeform sounds from far further afield than its Stoke Newington home.

I have just spent the last weekend in Stoke Newington with friends. Loved Ryans Bar. We spent most of Saturday in the pub but when we came back on Sunday for the cure we didn't leave until closing time. We had a fantastic Sunday roast and an all round excellent day. I'm coming back at the end of the month Maria !!!!!!
Just moved to stoke newington and end up in Ryan's on a sunday afternoon. The staff are really friendly and helpful. As we couldn't decide the barmaid offered us a little taste of each craft beer they have on tap. They serve locally brewed stuff and a great selection of real ales. I had a kernel and was ace! We also had a meal, the roast lamb is absolutely delicious. Proper Sunday Roast! My mates had curries that good really good too. Good selection of music, mainly motown and northern soul and great atmosphere! Definitely going back!
Went in for a quiet drink and found the establishment amazing! but will not be going back there as they have a musician playing on the 9/05/2014 which promotes pedophilia. see here: http://www.discogs.com/Black-Leather-Jesus-Taint-Sex-Acts-On-A-Child-In-A-Full-Body-Cast/release/377149 the event is described here, really need to to boycott this: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/258447
Great little pub, lovely staff who made me and my wife really welcome. We checked out the music dowstairs after the beer garden closed at 10pm which was a shame, but the event goig on downstairs made us happy we stayed :) Great times.
