Silent Opera presents one of the earliest operas, Monteverdi's 1607 tale of Orfeus as he descends to Hell in search of his deceased wife, Euridice. Here, the audience are offered a chance to travel to the Underworld with him. They are provided with wireless headphones, which deliver the soundworld directly into their ears, bringing together live singing and select instrumentalists, mixed with a pre-recorded orchestra. (Composer Louis d'Heudieres has composed a new orchestration for the opera's ambience, plus a full new ending to the show.) The director is Daisy Evans; designs by Kat Heath.
