This enormous and ambitious undertaking comprises a pair of cocktail lounges, restaurant, bar, suitably rustic deli and wine shop in a vast space that resembles a more edgy, metropolitan All Bar One.

While there’s the clichéd wine cellar theme, some of the more ‘daring’ design touches include bell-jar lamps dangling from curtain rails, a 1950s kitchen and lots of large, loud orange tables.

City boys and girls (all in suits) are seduced by the large list of champagnes, or dabble in the ‘wine flights’ (actually three standard measures of 125ml). Cocktails are segregated into either ‘skinny’ – the Russian Rose Martini weighs in at 80 calories – or ‘signature’ sections.

Starting at 8am serving big breakfasts and brunch, the open-plan kitchen offers burgers, fish pies and sharing platters, including a seafood option of oysters, lobster and clams served in a bank deposit box.

An extremely popular bar for local workers, I end up at the Anthologist far more often than I'd prefer. Ultimately, it's a flashy bar with expensive drinks (even for the city), and given the huge crowds that turn up here, often includes a lengthy wait in the queue until you're served.

Definitely not a venue I'd pick to go to unless others were keen, and there are plenty more bars in the City that are better value and easier to talk to friends in!

Great place to meet after work, friendly team and a relaxed vibe

Rob Smith

If you're looking for a bar lacking in character and personality, come here. It's pretentious, utterly so. In attempting to be a wine and cocktail bar it fails miserably. Try drinking at any of the vastly superior pubs which lie within comfortable walking distance.

Decent enough vibe but the drinks are poorly thrown together by disinterested staff.

Don't go there for a lunch or a dinner. All of the food order by a table of 4 was dry and tasteless. But it provides a classy atmosphere for couple of drinks after work.
