On Grosvenor Road, right in the middle of Mayfair, Avista is an Italian restaurant in the Millennium Hotel with a separate bar serving a broad range of cocktails. It was recently awarded three-AA rosettes.
It's a slick-looking dining room, with a contemporary-European menu with heavy influence from Italy. That means dishes such as mushroom and truffle salad, Cornish crab with granny smith foam, samphire, pickled shallot and coconut snow, foie gras and black kale risotto with glazed quail breast and orange zest, and venison saddle and shoulder served with cauliflower purée, red cabbage, radicchio and a port jus.
Ten wines are available by the glass, with bottles going from around the £30 mark to prestige options well into three figures.
