After opening a first ice cream parlour in Blackheath, Black Vanilla's second branch (opened January 2012) sits between three of Greenwich's tourist hotspots: the Cutty Sark, the Old Royal Naval College and Greenwich indoor market. The new branch is close to some fine river views, and the horizons of the owners seem to have expanded too. It's not just ice creams, sorbets and a selection of baked goods on offer - afternoon and champagne teas as well as simple food platters are served on the first floor.

Went in to try new Christmas flavours tried mince pie and the only word I can describe this was AMAZING. Some of the best gelato I have ever tasted and the staff were incredibly friendly and gave lots of free tasters.
Not really impressed, the ice cream was OK but very expensive and the staff were snooty, almost arrogant. Will save my money and go elsewhere. Shame.
Found Black Vanilla right next to Greenwich market and was really impressed with the gelato and coffee. I had a double espresso which was smooth and rich was pleased to see Allpress on the menu which is hard to find. Had the bronte pistachio which was full of flavour and the best pistachio that I have tasted by far in any ice cream establishment definitely worth the extra 50p.
Had the spicy Chai yesterday at the Greenwich branch, it was superb creamy with an incredible spicy ting at the end. My friend had the dark chocolate sorbet which was fab and something I have not seen before. We definitely be back to Black Vanilla as they also have a bar upstairs too!
Most definitely the best gelato in London. Had the wonderful salted caramel and tasted the dark chocolate Sorbetto which had no dairy and was amazing. Taking my boyfriend there this weekend :-)
Uh, the ice cream flavors were all overly sweet, flat and generally unimpressive, same goes for coffee and service.
