The streets of Finsbury Park feel a little more continental with the scent of Bon Matin’s freshly baked bread and viennoiserie. The comely window display is a little Ottolenghi-esque and, inside, rows of good-looking tarts, sandwiches, mini cheesecakes and quiches provide further invitation. As the name suggests, this café is more of a morning venue, but breakfast is a leisurely affair, served until 4pm, and for lunch there’s a selection of colourful sandwiches (ciabatta, brioche or open) and a daily soup (a pleasingly light lentil and tomato when we dropped by) served with a basket of bread.

Following in the footsteps of its successful sister restaurant in Crouch End, however, there are plans to start serving a Middle Eastern-style lunch menu here too. Bon Matin attracts a friendly bunch: couples leafing through the free newspapers, small groups eating in the sky-lit extension at the back, young families on a weekend cake mission. French toast was incredibly light and fluffy, made with Bon Matin’s own brioche, which really crisped up around the edges. Moist, buttery scrambled eggs and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice made a fine hangover cure.

Lovely staff, great atmosphere, and the best coffee I had in London. I come from Melbourne -AU so I know what a good coffe is :)

We love going to this cafe, sometimes we sit in, sometimes we just take-away some desserts. Most of the time this place is packed, but the owner if he is around is really friendly and attentive. Even the staff are friendly and efficient. We love all their desserts and their coffee is good too. They used to make this decadent chocolate cake which they have discontinued and which we throughly miss!

This is the best place for breakfast, they pancakes are excellent as are the cakes. The owner is so welcoming, not surprising it is harder and harder to get a table at the weekend!

Flies on the very attractive looking cakes in the window, during the summer put me off. A damn shame too.

Fantastic atmosphere, fresh cakes and the best cappuccino ever had. Me and my partner we asked for another 2 cappuccinos to take away with us!

Great food, atmosphere and good value. The orange chocolate cake is immense.

Please rate it down so people don't hear about it and I can have it all to myself mwahahaha.
