This friendly little cafe brings a splash of colour to an otherwise drab stretch of Hackney Road. Baskets of fresh vegetables are arranged around the cosy, wood-lined interior, and piles of fruit are squeezed for pomegranate or orange juices.
The menu covers breakfast and more substantial meals, and there are always a couple of daily changing specials and home-baked cakes.

What a delightful place. I've walked past this cafe so many times on my way to work, but this morning noticed some delicious looking ciabatta in the window, so decided to pop back later to get lunch. The staff were really friendly and the soup (with ciabatta) and lasagne were really tasty. I have now decided to go back tomorrow and have a sit down lunch with a glass of wine. Wonderful.
I ADORE this cafe. I've been here a few times now and the owners always remember me and ask how I am and seem so pleased to see me. The food is wonderful - all homemade by the charming and adorable Italian chef who will tell you himself, with pride, what he has on offer. It varies daily. Pick which main you like and he'll bring a gigantic portion over to you, with a couple of delicious salads to boot. You will definitely not leave this place hungry. They always have some sunday papers or magazines lying around - sometimes they're a few weeks old but the owners are always more than happy for you to while away a couple hours over a lazy lunch and a little read. Shoreditch eating is so often very pretentious and expensive and this place is the exact opposite. Cafe's like this make shoreditch feel properly like home.
I loved the fresh italian style fish pie! Really recommend it - friendly staff, fresh food and cosy interior.
This is a great, unpretentious cafe with really friendly staff. The food is really at a good restaurant standard. I've had the lasagne, the lamb pie and the barbecue chicken. They're all served with a generous, tasty salad and bread or couscous so go there hungry. They also have a good full english for 4.99 - it's their European take on the full english, so there's some asparagus and it feels quite healthy. Give the pomegranate juice a miss - it's tasty but it's not worth 3.50.
Went to Cafe 12 randomly on Sunday for breakfast, and was pleasantly surprised by the food and the decor. The service wasn't amazingly fast but that was more than made up for by the very friendly manner of the staff and the very tasty English breakfasts! Definitely recommended.
