We had a dinner in a private dining room last week, the food was good, service unobtrusive, and the wine suggestions excellent. Prior to the dinner the event staff were prompt in response, and extremely helpful. I would thoroughly recommend the Chiswell Dining Rooms, not the first time we have been there, and it won't be the last.

Unlike other Martin Brothers’ ventures, Chiswell Street Dining Rooms isn’t much of a pub (though you can drink in the roomy bar, where beer and wine are taken seriously), and the dining room feels like a restaurant, with prices to match. The decor here is less in-your-face (no taxidermy, for a start) and more lounge-like than the Jugged Hare – the gastropub that’s also attached to the Montcalm London City hotel. Colours are subdued, chairs nicely padded; staff are friendly and professional.
What was slightly below-par on our visit was the food. Coq au vin, served with excellent savoy cabbage and creamed potato, was more like three chicken pieces recently introduced to gravy, while a main course salad of smoked barbary duck breast was dominated by its salad cream-like dressing and (unexpectedly candied) walnuts. These dishes hovered around £15; even pricier were the likes of grilled fillet of Cornish brill (£27) – too much for what is merely competent cooking.
The bar menu might be the more attractive option, including charcuterie plates, cheeseboards, and steak sandwiches (though even these are £15) – or look out for one of the generous special offers.

I had to book a private dining room at short notice for a lunch - we were made to feel very welcome and not rushed at all (having spent a few weeks eating at our desks). Would be more than happy to have another relaxing lunch there!
Cozy and friendly feel in a modern pub environment. Very attentive staff; from event managers to waiters. With nice and affordable group menu options to choose from, this restaurant is an easy choice for a business meeting or gathering with friends. Walking distance from Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations makes it easy for commuters. Am sure to suggest them to a friend and to repeat my experience there!
We used one of the private rooms for a working dinner for seven people. The space was well arranged for us to eat and talk: there was plenty of room, with no intrusive noise from the main restaurant.
The food - from the main menu - was excellent; the service was efficient and discreet. Highly recommended.
Chiswell Dinning Rooms is one of the best locations you can ever have the best of the best events. The staff and the Event team worked so well with us for our School Reunion Event on 23rd August 2014 and we really had a wonderful time.
They made us feel so welcomed and we were all treated so well- Very impressive and we would be back @ the venue again very shortly
Thanks to Nicole - The Senior Event Manager and all the wonderful staff who helped us to achieve an excellent goal on the day!
Thank you so much!
Very professional service and outstanding range on the menu. Our waiter was able to recommend the perfect wine for our meal, and answered any questions we had. Well worth the city level prices and I will be coming back with clients and family in the future.
Very average. Went for £20.12 deal and food was fine, but nothing special. Starter of fois gras was very nice, flavourful with brioche toast. Main of smoked haddock risotto was pretty poor. Tasted like rice had been cooked separately, no real depth of flavour. Ice-cream served for desert was a watery and had limited flavours (vanilla, choc, coffee). Dining companions had similarly so-so meals (tasteless cesar salads, dry steaks, slightly boring crumble). Wasn't anything on menu I couldn't have cooked better at home. Very glad we didn't pay full price.
I usually trust timeout for its restaurant reviews, but on this occasion I feel they have got it horribly wrong -- there is no way this place deserves a 4* review. We ate there on a Saturday night, and along with about 5 other groups of people were inexplicably made to wait 45 minutes for a table, despite the restaurant being almost entirely empty. Once seated, the service was sporadic, and the food below mediocre. If you're charging £10 for a starter and £20 for a main you better have the goods to match, and Chiswell Street Dining Rooms most certainly does not. If you are eating at this price point, then make sure you do it somewhere else.
Had dinner last weekend. Pigs head, ham hock terraine and smoked eel did not sound great but was absolutely delicious! Lobster rissotto also beautifully cooked! Very buzzy vibe and comfortable dining room. Would definately go again but would prefer not to be seated next to the till!
