Black and white floor tiles evoke a traditional Seville tapas bar, with diners perching around tall wooden tables. The tiled walls make it rather noisy, but there are a few tables outside if you prefer quieter surroundings. Staff were easy-going and jovial, and particularly enthusiastic about the sherry menu.
Standards such as almonds, cheeseboards and chorizo de bellota are on the menu, but there are more original pairings too, which change frequently – on our visit, these included kohlrabi and apple salad, and mussel croquettes. Miniature violet artichokes were perfectly grilled, crisp at the end of each leaf. Ajoblanco was an addictive cold soup of puréed garlic, almonds and breadcrumbs, served with sweet chunks of beetroot, peanuts and fresh dill. Marinated lamb was a mini roast dinner, served just medium rare with glazed carrots and black olives.
Servings are on the small side (as they tend to be in Spain), so you may need three or four dishes per person. The wine list is well informed, and all wines come by the glass; Copita encourages you to have several little glasses (or copitas) with each tapas. Do try the sherries on offer, and even a glass of pacharán sloe berry liqueur as a digestif.
