Descending into the kaleidoscopic, neon-lit basement of Crazy Homies –it’s brash, buzzy and has beats pumping on the stereo – feels like entering an oversized jukebox. Thus supplying the requisite psychedelic intensity for the reeling mix of tequila, mezcal and chilli about to unfold. It’s best to go easy on the oversized starters, which include quesadillas with assorted fillings: ‘barrio chorizo’, mushroom and spinach, or succulent, caramelised ‘melting pork’. Buttery guacamole and sour cream were employed to calm things down as a stealthy chipotle salsa unleashed a fiery chilli kick. For mains, a sirloin steak burrito featured very tender meat, while tacos with a super-smooth pinto bean filling provided a pleasant contrast to yet more peppers. Granted, we’ve eaten better Mexican food in London, but rarely in such party-hearty surroundings.
