This Charlotte Place Italian - just off Tottenham Court Road and not far from Goodge Street tube - has been open since 1990. Should they wish, diners can follow the classic four-course Italian format, with starters followed by a pasta course, a main and a dessert.

The menu is filled with recognisable Italian options, ranging from Parma ham with melon and calamari fritti to grilled swordfish with virgin olive oil, lemon, fresh oregano and chives, and fegato di vitello con burro e salvia - grilled calf liver with butter and sage. Pasta dishes include home-made ravioli and tortellini alongside traditional lasagnes and black ink cuttlefish spaghetti. Gluten-free options are also available.

The wine list focuses on Italian bottles, though a Sancerre, a Chablis, a Pouilly Fumé, a Châteauneuf du Pape and Champagnes show a French influence, too.

Da Paolo Restaurant says
Established in 1990, Da Paolo is a traditional neighbourhood Italian restaurant in the heart of London. From the backstreets of Bologna to the middle of Modena, Da Paolo serves authentic Italian food in a family atmosphere with all the professionalism you would expect in central London.

During summer, tables spill out onto the pavement yet the intimate atmosphere inside makes Da Paolo just as attractive in winter. Ideal for business lunches as well as romantic evenings, the restaurant can also cater for larger parties in its private dining room.

At Da Paolo, Carlos and his team have created a relaxed restaurant to meet, eat and drink just a few yards from the hubbub of Charlotte Street and Tottenham Court Road.

I love this place- it's cosy, intimate & does excellent food. Been here for 25yrs so a local stalwart. Friendly staff who are obliging to go off piste with the a la carte menu & do bespoke dishes on request. Great Italian in a lovely corner of central London. Be warned big portions- can easily share starters & still struggle to squeeze in desserts!

This is a hidden gem. It has a unique charm that is about more than just the food. Great service, classic Italian dishes. The food is fresh and the ambiance makes you feel you are a million miles from the hustle and bustle of central London.

I went here last night and had a fabulous meal. I had been scouring the internet for good restaurants in the area and kept seeing complaints about other places for the bad service. I cannot praise the service here enough - they were excellent and attentive but didn't bother us when we were clearly in conversation. The food was delicious, very fresh and full of flavour and the wine selection was also good. I will definitely come back to this lovely little restaurant. It is full of charm and a world away from many of the horrible chain Italian restaurants you get. A real gem.
