The only disappointing part of our science museum visit was the Deep Blue Diner. We'd been rushing around, clearly the visit was going to take longer than we anticipated, and suddenly we all felt hungry and thirsty at the same time. We'd planned a "proper" meal somewhere else later, so, seeing cake on a stand, we approached a cheerless waitress and were seated at a garish brightly underlit plastic table and handed menus which were impossible to read on the table as they were double sided but thin, so both sides were shone through by the table underneath. We ordered a coffee, a tea and a slice of chocolate cake. The tea and coffee weren't bad, but if the cake wasn't defrosted from frozen 3 days ago, it might as well have been. It was hard, dry and disappointing. The bill? A few pence short of £10, including a rather cheeky 87p "service charge". I think they were rather hopeful having a tip jar out as well! Yes, I know this is a tourist attraction in central London and I should expect to feel ripped off, but it's not even like it was a pleasant surrounding with cheery staff and nice cake. It was an epic planning fail on our part, because later we found there's another mucher nicer looking self-service place near the front of the museum called Energy Cafe with much nicer looking cake for half the price and a better food selection too. Live and learn! Anyway, that was the only slightly negative experience. The rest of the science museum is much better.
