I've studied Japanese and I've lived in Japan for a year. Whenever I need to get authentic ingredients I go to the Japan Centre, it's amazing and it's unbelievable how many things they sell. It's really expensive but it's also true that I don't cook Japanese food every day so it's fine :) the only thing I don't like it's the crows, this place is always full of people, but after all it's super central and it's normal. I love taking friends to check funny Japanese products too!

Apart from food and ingredients, they also sell cute Japanese stuff and souvenirs. If you're a Japan lover as much as I am, don't miss this place!

Fantastic place to get all my Japanese products! They carry items that I can't find in Chinatown, I love their fresh sashimi grade fish and bento boxes. I noticed that they sell some Daiso products too, they cost three times more than Daiso stores in America or Japan though. Believe it or not, I bought my rice cooker there and it's still working. I had to toss out a ricer cooker that I bought from John Lewis (twice) and Ebay (twice), cheers to that. It's a little unfortunate that it's right next to a busy tube station, I avoid going to that area at at all cost (even though I live in Central London, I just hate the crowd). But I try to do my Whole Food trip together with my Japan Centre trip. Enjoy!

The Japan Centre is a bit of a hidden gem. You'd easily walk past it without noticing it, as it's really just an escalator from the street up to the shop on Shaftesbury Avenue. When I got to the top of the escalator I was pleasantly surprised - it's a big-ish Japanese supermarket with plenty of fresh food and sushi to go, along with a hot food counter. I took away a chicken ramen for lunch and it was delicious. I also spied on someone else's chicken katsu, which looked excellent.

Lots of trinkets and sweeties with Japanese written on that us English can't read, but I love that. It's kind of like lucky dip on drinks and snacks!

I love the Japan Centre! So many people don't know about this place, and they should! It's great if you're after Japanese groceries / treats - it's essentially a Japanese supermarket. But also, it's an excellent place to get a lunch or dinner on the go. I've become obsessed with their chicken ramen - you can choose between soy or miso broth - it's flavoursome and light and feels really healthy. My friend ordered the chicken teriyaki with rice and it was such a huge portion she took half home with her to eat later on.

Love anything Japanese? This is where you should spend most of your free time.

Filled with any goods imaginable from the Land of the rising sun, it’s impossible for you not to find something that catches your fancy. From rice cookers to mangas, from dried seaweeds to matcha cupcakes, there’s nothing Japan centre doesn’t sell – as long as it’s Japanese. Looking for cat shaped soy sauce bowls? Yep, they have that too!

And if you’re feeling peckish, they have a wide collection of ready-made sushis, snacks and soups that you can enjoy sitting at one of the tables there.

The Japan Centre will supply your every need for Japanese ingredients, no matter what you can imagine. Spices, sakes, sashimi, fresh fruit and veg and the list goes on.

There is also a great selection of ready-made food to enjoy at tables there. However, prices have gone up quite a lot over the last couple of years, making it a little bittersweet.
