This kitchen and cocktail bar - previously Navajo Joe - sits in the heart of Covent Garden in an enormous converted warehouse. The bar sweeps down the length of the double-height building and boasts one of the largest collections of tequilas, mezcals and rums in London. There's a follow up now too, in Kentish Town.

The food menu promises classic Southern cooking. Expect, then, dishes such as cajun shrimp with a black bean stew, jalapeno poppers, chilli made with slow-braised beef brisket, mac 'n' cheese and blackened catfish fillet with collard greens. Wings, burgers and Big Apple hot dogs also feature.

The bar downstairs, Cocktail Baby, offers house tunes alongside French martinis, mojitos, amaretto sours and cocktails with a Southern slant, like the smokey joe - Jim Beams Devil's Cut bourbon with tobacco liquor and barrel bitters.

Joe's Southern Kitchen says
Joe's Southern Kitchen & Bar is about all Deep South cooking and Southern hospitality. Set in a converted warehouse, the restaurant is spread across two floors with our bar, Cocktail Baby, in the basement. On the ground floor we serve a wide selection of cocktails, American and international beers, wines and spirits, all accompanied by a Southern flavour music soundtrack.

Expect our signature new recipes, such as sweet tea brined fried chicken with lemon salt and tabasco honey, 'beer can' chicken (a tasty roast bird served on a meat trolley and carved before your eyes), soft shell crab, mac 'n' cheese, beef short rib and cornbread worthy of your Louisiana momma. Haven't got one? No fear. With treats such as this Joe's is the only momma you need.

Cocktail Baby below Joe's Southern Kitchen & Bar is an intimate space serving great drinks to great people. The music is a journey through disco, soulful house and deep house. From the likes of Larry Levan, Joey Negro and Françoise K, expect a musical evening of concept and soul. Drinks to please with £5 classic cocktails to ease you in gently, great for gatherings of friends of up to 30 people in an area or 50 people exclusively.

Happy hour drinks available at all times. A little secret: our watermelon martinis are divine.

This is quite possibly the best fried chicken I have ever had in my life … ever! The chicken is tender and flavourful, not dry at all and the accompanying sides and brilliant too, best mac & cheese and the whipped potatoes with chicken gravy is delicious. Also the BBQ pulled pork butter beans and slow braised beef brisket chilli cup are really good too. Also, if you order between 12pm-1pm on a Friday afternoon, the fried chicken is half price! Good lining if you’re planning a heavy night out :)

Great cocktails (especially at £4 during happy hour!) The fried chicken and chicken wings both amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you're in need of some comfort food.

Tried Joes for the first time Friday early evening of last week and I absolutely loved it. Great tasting food and reasonably priced taking into consideration where it's located. Great atmosphere, busy but no rammed. Can't wait to go again which will probably be next week.

Very good chicken. I had the boneless bites with the buffalo sauce, and it was delicious. The mac and cheese here is also top class. So good!
