Most customers seem to take their order and head back to the office, but a seat at this pleasant City branch of Konditor & Cook allows a peep at the architectural intricacies of its landmark location. The menu invariably features a hearty salad, a few pizzas and tarts, and jacket potatoes. Inventive soups such as courgette with lime show a foodie sensibility many lunch-spots sadly lack. Risotto is served from hot trays behind the counter; smoked haddock with saffron and serrano ham was very fishy, our server advised, so we opted for a thai veg curry laden with chickpeas for protein. A rhubarb and custard muffin wrapped in brown paper did not live up to the usual high standard of the cakes.
