A very French place - you enter and are greeted by a waiter speaking French. The menu is in French (and English). The food is amazing from starters to desserts. Contrary to general belief, French portions don't need to be ridiculously small; Le Garrick is a proof of that, their main course could feed two :)

I've been there a couple of times and every time it was exquisite. Starting with a glass of champagne and small fondue or goat's cheese salad, continuing with tender duck or beef casserole and a bottle of dark red wine, finishing with cafe gourmand - every single bite is sublime, every sip a blessing.

Most of the restaurant is in the basement but although it looks a little shabby, it feels very welcoming and cosy.

What a gem! The food was excellent – I had French onion soup and steak and frites; perfectly executed and full of flavour. And best of all - the downstairs area is atmospheric, candle lit and cavernous; great for a romantic, intimate dinner… Highly recommended.

Somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me at Le Garrick.

1. lovely setting, quirky, old school french place, just a stone's throw from the theatres, covent garden and leicester sq.

2. Great little booths, feels buzzy and busy because it's quite small.

3. You can book - right from Yelp!

4. Good wine, very reasonable too.

5. Unfussy, friendly service, and they aren't joking with the french accents - everyone who works here seems to be French and they know their stuff. Oui, c'est vrai.

6. Decent steak frites.

1. Starters were poor I thought - in particular the goats cheese salad which is a huge plate of lettuce and two tiny pieces of goat's cheese.

2. Main courses were overall quite good but the duck that my Dad had wasn't the best it could have been.

3. My chair was crazy broken and I was terrified I was going to fall through it for the whole meal. Quirky is good, but functional quirky would be better...

In conclusion, I would certainly come here again. It's very reasonably priced, a great location and the service is good. Choose wisely on the food and ask for recommendations from the staff about what's best. The moules frites looked decent, but I didn't try.
