When travelling through the South Croydon area, one would be forgiven for not being terribly compelled to stop for extended periods. Despite my naturally adventurous nature, I myself am guilty of this, particularly in the later hours of the day.
However, in the case of Little Bay, I urge you to make the effort.
Sitting crookedly on Selsdon Road, this little gem holds more riches inside it than it's otherwise understated shell would lead you to believe. Understated that is, save for the stone mask to the side of the door that illuminates your way in to this little slice of heaven.
Inside, you are instantly greeted by friendly and approachable staff, who will lead you through to your table.
Here is where the magic begins.
Little Bay offers three distinct seating areas, each more wonderful than the last in its own way. The first is immediately to the left as you walk in, and is host to quirky salt shakers, decorations and impeccable table service. The area is private and intimate despite often being quite full (unsurprisingly!)
The second, and my personal favourite, is the gold guided theatre style seating area at the back. An artistic triumph in it's own right, this part of the building offers guests the chance to sit in private gold booths surrounded by twinkling lights, and swags of colourful fabric. You may be lucky enough (if there are enough of you!) to be seated in the upper booths, which have an added sense of exclusivity.
The third seating section is straight up the stairs opposite the entrance, and is a divine combination of the two, with more space for larger groups, without losing any quality of service or environment.
Little Bay is truly wonderful from menu to bill.
On my most recent visit, I took a group of friends who had not experienced this amazing and unlikely little world, and their reaction was just as expected: that of wonder and a wish to move and live more locally.
I myself ordered the mozzarella avocado and tomato starter (deliciously fresh and light) followed by the equally divine Sea Bass Paella which I full heartedly recommend to seafood lovers everywhere.
For those of you with a love for wine, look no further than the house red.
Trust me, Little Bay is not to be walked past.
