Michael Nadra's new Primrose Hill restaurant is one of those places that has the potential to be really good. The chefs can clearly cook, the menu makes an interesting read and there are plenty of innovative ingredients in the dishes. They're just trying to pack a bit too much in.

As with the Chiswick original the menu is predominantly European, with the odd Asian twist. Featuring well-presented dishes such as prawn and scallop dumplings in a (slightly overpowering) broccoli and spinach velouté and juicy grilled rump of lamb with ratatouille and rosemary gnocchi, as well as the à la carte, there's a well-priced prix fixe or six-course tasting menu to choose from. New to this branch is the martini bar which also serves small plates of tempura or the Peruvian raw, marinated fish dish ceviche (also available as part of a meal).

My Japanese dining companion described the innovative lamb sweetbread 'tempura' with pea purée and rosemary jus as 'nice, but it's not tempura'. It was not just the Western treatment; the batterwas also erring on the greasy side of crisp.

A main of scotch fillet steak with braised cheeks and creamy truffle mash was executed well - the steak cooked perfectly à point, the cheeks fork-tender. As is often the case with European/Asian fusion restaurants, the Western cooking skills and flavours proved stronger here.

Michael Nadra's Camden canalside location and atmospheric dining areas - including a Grade II-listed horse tunnel, complete with cobbled floor and arched brick ceiling - make this place an appealing destination, and the slick service on our visit couldn't be faulted. However, they'd do better to stick to the European cooking they do so well.

Lovely food and atmosphere! Had my weeding reception there and it was fantastic!!! Michael a and his staff are so sweet! Giving them 5 stars for sure!!!

Fantastic place, with really, really good food. Especially nice when the sun is shining as the courtyard is just lovely. Definitely recommend a Martini before dinner!


Why have I not found this hidden gem before?! The best of food,great service and beautiful surroundings.

Great value for money, with some imaginative food and cocktails.

I would recommend Michael Nadra to anybody!

Very unimpressed wih everthing about this restaurant. As a Publican, I expected to be looked after a bit especially having booked and paid in £150 in advance. Had booked a table for 9.30 an when we arrived entered a busy area whih was filled with guests waiting to be seat. You could see people were very irrate but we paid no attention as the lady in charge said she would be with us in one minute. Could over hear people saying they had been waiting for 1 hour. We then expressed our concerns as we had booked in advance and were wanting to see the NYE fireworks. Did not get served at the bar or ask if we wanted our coat taken, and then at 10.45pm we were shown our table. 30 minutes later; now 11.15pm we had still not been approched for drinks, food, accknowledged. Not even our glass of champagne which we had already paid for!!! By this stage, I got very fustrated an asked for a full refund; "Unfortunalty we do not do refunds" I was told!!! I demanded to speak t the manager and he was very apologetic and agreed a full refund. The waitress wanted to take my card details to which I declined; This is Fraud, she could have used them for anything! E Eventally the Manager,Micheal authorised a payment. Very Upset as we had planned a romantic night together and to bring in the New Year in style. Advice: Do not take bookings you cannot cater for and spoil eveyones evening by being greedy!!


Utterly disappointed ! We booked a table for 9:30 new years eve and paid £75 per person upfront for a 6 course meal with champagne on arrival. When we arrived we were ushered into a crowded bar area and asked to wait a moment. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife, the front of house lady was flapping around, people in the bar were demanding their table as they had been waiting over an hour to be seated. At 2245 we were shown to our seats and 20 mins later still not been spoken to by waiting on staff or offered a drink (not even our champagne we had pre paid for. At this point my fiancee wanted to leave, we could see the food coming out and the portion size was tiny, the table next to us were complaining they had been made to wait over an hour for their bill and the food was unimpressive. We got up to leave and the lady was unable to authorized refunds and wished to copy the numbers off our card to refund tomorrow, we refused and requested cash or card refund now. Michael was called from the kitchen to authorize the payment which he did. I'm gutted as our romantic New years eve was ruined by a greedy restaurant who took on more customers than it could manage.
