The ice-cream reigns supreme in this quintessential old-school gelateria in South Kensington. Staff natter in Italian, while mothers gently reprimand their children in French – it all makes for a rather cosmopolitan and pleasant atmosphere.
Some 15 flavours of ice-cream and sorbet are on offer, using natural ingredients. Some change weekly: make sure you’re there for the salted caramel, hazelnut chocolate, and cookies and cream editions – creamy but not too heavy. Strawberry sorbet was also exquisite, using real fruit and minimal sugar. If you’ve got a sweet tooth and lunchtime descends, try a couple of scoops on a warm cinnamon waffle with extra chocolate sauce. For dessert, you can take home a sizeable gelati cake (banoffee pie and Oreo cakes were staring smugly at us from behind the glass), followed by a chilled affogato (Illy coffee and vanilla ice-cream).
