There has been a change of style at the Orange Room: out with the cosy backpacker aesthetic and (thanks to the smoking ban) slouchy corner for shisha pipes, and in with a clean paint job, canteen tables and hilariously kitsch desert artwork. The food, though, put together in the open kitchen at the top of the single room, remains the same. Classic Brit breakfasts and a nice range of drinks (lassis, date and rosewater cordial, ‘fresh’ mint tea made from leaves and a teabag) maintain the café vibe, while Lebanese meze (grilled and marinated meats, flatbread and pastries, falafel, houmous and simple herbed salads) give the place a cosmopolitan slant. And when it comes to quality, the execution is only rarely wide of the mark.
