I love the DIY ethic of this place, reminds me of my art school student union. Bagels and beer for breakfast is always a good way to start the day, and the open mic nights are a good way to end them.

When people say Peckham is the new Dalston, the Pelican is probably the kind of place they reference. It has all the typical trendy features: a partly derelict looking warehouse interior, battered mismatched furniture and questionable toilet facilities, and the clientele wear their trouser hems rolled and their haircuts bowled.

Having said that it has a really relaxed atmosphere to it, I’ve only been of a night-time and everyone always seems calm and content, nestled into the ripped sofas or perched on rickety benches, quietly engaging in conversation over bitter cocktails and pale ales. The staff are also lovely, happy to suggest your new favourite drink of choice and to promote which of the amazing countertop cakes to try. The cakes, along with the pizzas, go down great once the alcohol-induced hunger pangs kick in.

They also give new artists the opportunity to exhibit on their walls and there are always a range of events happening throughout the year, listings are on their Facebook page.

Although nothing ground-breakingly different as it follows the same formula of the hipster East, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. But a word of advice- if you’re planning a long drinking session be sure to have some tissues handy, there’s nothing worse than no loo roll once you’ve broken the seal.

This cafe-turned-bar is the perfect spot to hang out both in the mornings and in the evenings. Chill out and get some work done over a bagel (do try the roast vegetable/goats cheese bagel!) or slice of cake and a filter coffee in the mug of your choice (choose a big one, duh!) in the morning or have one of Peckham's best thin-crust pizza's in the evening over an affordable can of Jamaica's finest lager. It is a great venue and they host all sorts of events, including Tie DYE workshops, Vintage sales and poetry readings... The staff is super friendly and if you're ever interested in hosting an event yourself, these are your guys!

The Peckham Pelican is a perfect example of how not all gentrification is bad.  Nestled at the bottom end of Peckham, this food/booze/arts venue oozes cool with battered chesterfields, mismatched chairs, and a twisted book shelf to boot.  I had the comatosing Welsh Rarebit here and at a fiver you certainly get your money's worth.  Its got the whole relaxed serve yourself vibe going on but it's working for it.  A recommended pit-stop or settle in for the afternoon joint.

Lovely place to take your laptop to work during the day on a big old cosy sofa. friendly staff will not make you feel pressured to order so much tea you're unwell- which is important when looking for someplace good to work!

There seem to be a wide range of events held here from screenings, to art markets to live performance. well worth a visit.

The pizza here is good and cheap- and occasionally they seem to hold food pop ups so keep an eye on their social channels!
