Venue says: "Pera specials. Set sharing platters: three-courses £13.95, all day, every day. Pre-theatre menu: two courses £12.95, noon-7pm every day."

This informal Mediterranean restaurant and café sits toward the Highbury & Islington end of Upper Street, almost opposite Islington Town Hall. There's even a small area outside so you can have a coffee taking in the sights, if that's your thing.

Most, though, head inside for classic east-Med dishes such as spinach and feta borek, houmous, couscous salad and smoked aubergine alongside charcoal-grilled meats and fish, oven-baked garlic mussels and a variety of iskenders. Meze platters also feature.

Set menus, group menus and 'business lunches' offer further variety.

Pera Restaurant says
Come to Pera for great Mediterranean food, mostly Turkish-inspired but with influences including Italian, French and Greek. We're a friendly, family-owned restaurant known for our great service and low prices.

Our Upper Street location is a stone's throw from Islington Town Hall, Union Chapel, the Almeida and the King's Head Theatre, so we're ideal for a pre- or post-theatre stop off.

Specialities include meat, fish and vegetarian sharing platters, and traditional menemen lunches alongside wraps and burgers, and English breakfast with tea or coffee. We use only the best, freshest ingredients including free-range eggs and organic loaf bread. Vegan options are also available.

We're looking forward to welcoming you to our restaurant!

Upper Street has the most insane number of restaurants and cafes, so to stand out amongst them is a pretty tough thing. Pera is one of the ones that nails it for a variety of reasons, both for the super friendly staff and service, and the great tasting food at good prices. We came here for a brunch after wandering up and down the street and Pera struck us, mostly because the owner was standing by the door warmly inviting customers in and offering to show us the menu.

A few minutes later and we were being served our drinks and orders taken for the meal, which ended up being a shakshuka with Turkish sausage and my girlfriend going for the veggie fry up. Top marks all around for simple but tasty food, with my shakshuka being especially noteworthy given Ottolenghi is down the road (and is arguably not very good anymore!).

I noted that their prices all day around are fairly cheap, and that they tend to have a pretty good cocktail deal in the evenings too. Very seriously considering booking Pera for an upcoming birthday meal etc later this year, and will be going back regardless for a nice relaxed brunch!

Delightful! My and my friends experience at Pera could really not have been better… the restaurant is decorated beautifully (especially the Mediterranean toilet’s!) and the service was great, it had a real homely family feel to it. Happy to say the food didn’t let the side down either…my salmon and my friend’s lamb were absolutely delicious and unbelievably good value for such reasonably priced food. I will be hurrying back here again soon!

It was our first visit to Pera this evening. As residents of Angel, we've been to most restaurants that Upper Street has to offer. We arrived at Pera 15 minutes late for our reservation but the hostess could not have been more accommodating and welcoming. We ordered scallops and the mixed sausage for starters, followed by the slow-cooked lamb shank and mixed grill for mains. We ordered a nice bottle of Viogner. All were delicious, as we're the complimentary warm bread, feta and olives pre-starters. We personally found the food to be much be better than comparable offerings in Angel (Mem & Laz, Galipolli etc.) and the service was much better. The staff at Pera are incredibly friendly, the service is fast and the food is well above average at a very reasonable price. We'll certainly go back.
