Founded in 1970, Old Street's Ravello restaurant pre-dates the Shoreditch-cool revolution. This friendly, family-run restaurant has stood the test of time remarkably well, constantly gaining new customers whilst still maintaining the regulars who return time and time again for the good Italian food and impeccable service. Remodelled over the years to keep the dining room fresh and attractive, Ravello nonetheless has an authenticity to it thanks to the beautifully painted impressions of Italian vistas, the low beamed ceilings and the large arched windows. Presented with numerous awards - including the title of Most Authentic Italian Food in London from no less than the President of Italy, Ravello offers a traditional and delicious take on food of the Campania.

I have been taken there a few times by our manager as we work nearby in a furniture design studio. It's an old unoccupied dilapidated building that's falling apart if you look up. Very dirty inside too. The food ingredients seem old and taste like microwaved from frozen, not fresh. Service is horrible as a few generations of 'the family' usually hover and argue. Last time food was bland again, worse found a curly hair in the Polpette ravello. Must have been from the Moroccan cooks. It's an arrabiata place really. Look from outside and trust your instincts before going in. Never again I told my manager, he agreed.

The food is acceptable but the bill is way too high for the overall experience. They charge silly money for coffee and drinks. Very disappointed, not good value, many many better places around the corner.
