Saravanaa Bhavan majors in Tamil vegetarian cooking. The Wembley franchise closed earlier this year, but a flagship is due to open in Croydon in late 2006. This outlet is small and café-like at the front, but leads to a spacious dining area at the back. In the middle is a partially open kitchen and brightly coloured sarees run the length of the opposite wall. Adai (here made with chickpea flour) came with avial (vegetable curry). Beautifully soft idlis were served with exceptional chutneys. Most items cost less than £3, and the delicious, generously portioned thalis are excellent value.
