London's best review, food and drink news
Open since 1961 and boasting Julien Macdonald and Jamie Oliver among its famous advocates, this small, family run business is clearly doing something right. Join the queue behind suited businessmen, dusty workmen and mums and children in this cramped American-style diner for baked spuds, shish kebabs, BBQ chicken, veggie burgers or the obvious fish and chips. Fresh cod (£5) is battered to perfection while you wait and thrown into a bag with a week's worth of thick cut, non-greasy chips (from £1.20), all wrapped up with a quaint slice of lemon. Sink your teeth into this good stuff and you'll see why George's is more than just a traditional British hangover haunt.
