  • La Fromagerie

  • Famed with foodies for its dedicated cheese room, Patricia Michelson’s high-end deli also dishes out freshly cooked café food. Its communal tables are often packed with devotees. La Fromagerie’s location, in Marylebone’s rarefied shopping enclave, means that punters are polished and in search of high-quality nourishment pre- or mid-spending spree. Go for an indulgent breakfast or late lunch, as the café closes in the early evening. Fromage-o-philes are spoilt with plates of artisan cheese served with great bread. The daily changing kitchen menu could include salmon and pollock fish pie nestled under clouds of mashed potato, or rich terrines of foie gras, duck or rabbit. Meal-in-one salads also feature. Artichoke, beetroot, red cabbage, walnut and speck was over-complicated and bitter, but fat-speared asparagus, pea, broad bean and pearl barley was light and vernal. Desserts are exceptional; try the creamy tarte au citron enlivened with a perfect shot of sharpness, or ditch the calorie counting and savour the great hunks of dense chocolate brownies.

The cheese and other food in this place is great and the staff is for the most part very friendly and helpful. The owner, however, is a rude elderly man who can barely even bring himself to scowl at his customers. I used to go quite often but can't stand to be ignored and barked at by this man any more. Sometimes I walk by and see if he's in there; if not I'll go in but otherwise I just keep walking. He should stay in the back and let his far more competent staff deal with the customers.

best casual lunch in london. We waited for 10 mins for the communal table and were rewarded with silky freshly made pumpkin soup with crisped sage, wild woodland mushroom salad, a plate of charcuterie with rilletts d'oi and an oozing seasonal cheese plate with russet apples from kent. We finished with one of the best coffee's i've had this side of europe and home baked fluffy raspberry muffins. will definately return...

This place is for people who think they're foodies when they're actually not. Expensive, small serves with very brash service. Yes, it looks cool, but don't be fooled. The food shop itself is inspiring (as is the fantastic cheese room), but the cafe side of things leaves a lot to be desired. Go next door to Ginger Pig and get a wonderful sausage roll instead.

Oooh horrors! Ok, so, I live in south London in my own really quite small flat. I do not have a cat but long for a dog. I only learnt to drive last...
