  • Il Bordello

  • Bordello is Italian for brothel, although it’s also used colloquially as a description of chaos. This neighbourhood Italian place is certainly chaotic, but in a way that’s cheerily boisterous, exciting and big on atmosphere. The efficient and very friendly staff jolly along a throng of raucous, good-time customers. Copper panelling and large art deco Lempicka prints adorn the classy interior. The menu is similarly sophisticated, comprising an impressive range of fresh fish, seafood and good cuts of meat, as well as the expected pizza and pasta. We went for two pasta dishes: the tagliatelle special with scallops, langoustines and monkfish; and orecchiette with broccoli, anchovies and chilli. At first all eyes were on their gimmicky electric cheese grater, but the focus soon turned to the enormous portions of wonderfully aromatic food. The pasta tasted fresh and the combination of flavours was superb. Should you make it through to dessert, we can thoroughly recommend the bold and boozy tiramisu.

I've been many times over the last few year. Amazing food, attentive service & delicious desserts! Make sure you get to the dessert though! Highly recommend this restaurant/ Enjoy

I've been to Il Bordello on a few occasions now and have always been very impressed with both the food and also the nice friendly service. The portion sizes are very generous and so I never usually worry about getting a starter or dessert
It seems that no matter what night you go its always quite busy and so must have a great reputation with the locals of Wapping

It's noisy, buzzy, and fun. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere great, the service perfect. I'd recommend it to anyone, whether it's a meal for two or a large family party. We've never been disappointed, and have been going regularly for five years.

Excellent restaurant. Have been a couple of times now and the food gets better each time. Excellent staff on hand to recite the full menu and make necessary recommendations. Excellent choices include the veal, steak and lobster aurora.

we have just arrived home from one of those great dinners in Il Bordello.
we used to pass by this restaurant and never get in, but we were surprised about the fact that it is always packed, any day any time.
one day we decided to try it, and the fantastic food, huge dishes, more than great friendly and professional staff have made us to come back again and again.
i want to mention in particular Mimi, the Moroccan king of Il Bordello, charming, enchanting, generous and humorous, that together with Mario, Mariano, Adriano and many others make a professional lineup that any restaurant would dream about.

We have eaten here at least a dozen times over the last 3 years and it never disappoints. We normally order from the specials which are great value onsidering the size of the portions. The service is always friendly and if you appreciate the fact that they are busy and have a drink over the road in the Captain Kidd Pub if you have to wait for a table then it makes a nice night out. I admit the tamara de lempicka artwork is not very italian but judge the place on the pasta....

Our experience of this restaurant was not very good. We booked a table for 9pm on Saturday (they had nothing else before that time). When we arrived they told us that the table is not ready and we had to go to a sort of a bar which is small and not very convenient. We waited for 25 minutes before I decided to talk to the manager. To my great surprise, instead of offering us the apology, the manager (the one at the cash desk) told me that he did not like my tone and that I should not talk to him like that. I saw people waiting for more than 30 minutes for their tables
Finally we got our table where they forgotten to lay napkins. We ordered pizzas and when we asked about the pizza’s knives they said that they would bring us the steak knives. Pizza’s are quite average, with a lot of ingredients but the ham was not of the best quality and artichokes were giving a sour taste to the pizzas. By the way, the pizzas are done in a simple electric stove which is not the best way of cooking them. After that incident the least what we expected was to be offered a dessert or a discount, but we got nothing. Overall, it is very noisy place with a bad service and if you are unhappy and you leave, they do not really care because the place is small with lots of people coming. It is also located in the area where there are not too many restaurants so the competition is really small. I do not recommend it.

We ate here recently and had a lovely meal. The portions are very big and although we shared a starter (Mussels...wonderful!) we still didn't have room for one of the beautiful looking desserts.
Very Italian and very authentic - excellent pasta and pizza, and the meat and fish dishes were cooked to perfection.
The house wine (Nero D'Avola) was also spot on and very reasonable too.
All in all a great dining experience and we shall definitely be going back to enjoy a little more of the Bella Italia in Wapping !
