In August 2007, tea merchant Rob Green and Australian chef Brett Redman transformed this park café overlooking Victoria Park’s lake. It now serves a menu of organic produce, rare-breed meats and artisanal food to the park’s many strollers; pushchairs and toddlers frequently fill the place. Fry-ups are the core of the menu, with moist black pudding and sensational sausages from the Ginger Pig among the highlights, but try and save room for the cakes (lemon drizzle, brownies and the like). Tea lovers will be delighted by the award-winning organic earl grey tea and the excellent orange pekoe (Rob imports these directly from Sri Lanka). The coffees are excellent too, using Monmouth coffee and Ivy House Farm organic milk. Prices are fair, and the café has a very friendly, happy buzz to it. Green and Redman are also committed to greening their business, from cutting waste to sourcing line-caught fish of ‘safe’ species from near Brighton.

What a treat to find this little gem so close to my house!
Bryan, you are right, a welcome departure from the ubiquitous greasy spoons to be found in the area.
Amazing coffee, brilliant giant field mushrooms fried in herbs and butter, perfect beans, and the haloumi is cooked to perfection!! The poached eggs definitely left a bit to be desired though, but this could have been a once off since everything else was amazing.
A beautiful place to go on a sunny day. Quiet and picturesque.
Just remember to take your cash! I didn't, and the nearest cashpoint is quite a hike away.
I'll be making myself a regular in this place... :)
rob has done east london proud..
such a down to earth real peoples cafe,
full of godness and great ethics.
Stopping off mid way through a stroll through Victoria Park at the Pavilion Café is a real treat.
The food is always good (well portioned sizes) and the cakes are divine.
The coffee is wonderfully poured. Sipping it whilst admiring the picturesque views across the lake is the ideal way to spend a Sunday, especially if your Saturday evening is still heavy on your mind.
The staff are polite, friendly and efficient.
Am already looking forward to scrumptious cups of take away hot chocolate on cold wintery days.
Just had the most perfect poached eggs on toast. I asked one of the chefs for his secret, but he gave the old stock answer of vinegar and removing the pan from the heat, which never works for me. There must be a secret that chefs around the world aren't telling us punters.
What a change from the previous cafe beside the lake. A real asset to the East End greasy spoon brigade.
BTW, the map opposite shows the location incorrectly. It is at the other end of Victoria Park.
Absolutely outstanding food in a lovely setting with really friendly staff. I regularly trek half way across london to come here. Definitely worth visiting again and again.
