• Fish in a Tie

  • Walking into this endearingly entitled, eccentrically decorated little bistro in Battersea is like entering a friends living room: except theres a few more chairs and tables. A lot more chairs and tables, in fact so many that getting back to your seat can present a problem if youve overindulged, which you could be forgiven for doing, as the food is great. From tricolore chicken (with mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto) to the OTT black tulip pudding (a pancake concoction with pears and chocolate), Fish in a Tie provides good bistro staples at low prices. This isnt fancy cuisine, but judging from the cheerful faces all around, thats not what people want from this long-established, well-loved local. Add a homely, welcoming atmosphere, complete with beaming staff who provide prompt service (and can also hold a tune and bake a mean cake; a nearby table was celebrating a birthday), and youre on to a winner. Well worth a visit.

Never done this before but felt I had to. While the food was o.k for the price range and the ambiance was delightful they really let themselves down with the service, My starter(spicy calamari) was not only not spicy but also drowned in dressing so I didn't finish. The waiter asked if "everything was o.k" but then completely failed to deal with my complaint. To make matters worse my main course was over-cooked and when the bill came (with the same waiter) no mention was made of my complaint PLUS my main was a different price than advertised on the specials board. Left feeling that they don't care as long as they are busy...which is a crying shame coz it could be a lovely place.

I had really high hopes for this place. It had great reviews and good recommendations. I went with my boyfriend and the restaurant looks great, but they tucked us away downstairs which doesn't look as nice or have as much atmosphere as upstairs. The menu was great and the food a great price, but the food itself was disappointing. I had risotto, which was basically normal rice in a watery sauce with a massive crab with no meat plonked on the top. My boyfriends started of smoked haddock and aubergine looked and tasted out of a tin. The steak for main was tasty, but accompanying veg, poor. I say give it a try if you think it sounds good, but ask to sit upstairs and order from the normal menu - not the specials. I wish it hadn't been such a disappointment.

Love this restaurant. My friend and her boyfriend discovered it - she finds wonderful little restaurants that do great food with even better prices!
Been here a couple of times and on both we have experienced great service, wonderful food and a lovely, friendly atmosphere. Staff are great and the decor is beautiful!
    Well worth the visit!!!
