  • El Vergel

    Budget choice
  • For the perfect lunch here, arrive late when most of the local office workers have returned to work. Then, armed with a magazine or book, indulge in a tortilla crammed with refried beans, spring onion, coriander and guacamole. There's even some feta cheese in there, proving the Chilean owners aren't bent on a purist Latino recipe. If you want a larger lunch, try one of the tender steaks smeared with avocado and tomato. Or a stew: the chicken broth is the light option, but the lamb stew is bolder and packs a peppery punch. The waitresses are among the sweetest and chattiest in town, and the coffee is strong enough to get you on your feet if you don't have the option of a siesta.
