  • Kastner & Ovens

  • A handy spot to grab a bite when you’re in Covent Garden, K&O is tucked away just off the main drag on the north end of Floral Street. The compact space is just enough to accommodate two buffet-style tables from which staff serve you with savoury and sweet comestibles (we’ve experienced both helpful and brusque service). Each day you’ll find a variety of substantial, flavour-packed, imaginative salads that let high-quality vegetables shine: raw cauliflower, chunky broccoli, celery and beansprouts; or roasted red pepper, courgette, aubergine and chickpea – accompanied by walnut bread or rosemary-flecked focaccia. Hot dishes could include chilli con carne and chicken pie. The array of mouth-watering cakes might feature delicate lemon layer sponge, tarte au citron, bramley apple pie, treacle tart and giant white chocolate and macadamia cookies. The more interesting dishes tend to sell out speedily, so get here early to beat the lunch-hour rush. Seating is scarce, but arriving back at your desk with a K&O lunch box beats munching a pre-packed sarnie any day.

Consistently delicious, affordable, home-cooked food. OK there's not really space to sit down, but can't otherwise see why Time Out only gave them three stars. This place is an absolute godsend if you work in the area, and easily missed. Do check them out.

I absolutely love this place. The quality and flavour is just incredible.
My favourite thing about it is the 'secret' feel to it being tucked away. They could easily put the prices up and I would still go - I wouldn't normally say that obviously but I want this amazing place to continue doing what it does better than anywhere else in the area.
Hope it opens one or two more branches while maintaining the high-quality, home cooked feel.

The best lunch place in Covent Garden!

In the last 6 months i have noticed that this once fantastic eatery has really gone down hill. Maybe times are biting hard for the company but the staff are becoming increasingly unfriendly, the prices rose and the quality of the ingredients that are used have deteriorated to a noticeable level. What a shame!

Quite simply the best eating establishment in Central London. Tasty, home cooked food at its best. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is fresh and fantastic. Everyday brings new and varied delights. Kastner and Ovens makes a mockery of other establisments' claims of fresh and healthy food, and simply makes other lunchtime options redundant.
